Strip specimens are normally used for tests to ISO 527-3 and ASTM D 882. This shape is easy to produce using a cutting press or a film cutting device.
Dumbbell specimens are often used for quality control and require a direct measuring extensometer for strain acquisition directly on the specimen.
Typical test results are characteristics such as yield stress, yield strain, maximum stress and nominal strain at break.
When using strip specimens the results for strain at break depend on both the specimen shape and the type of specimen clamping. We recommend the use of parallel gripping specimen grips. The jaw inserts should be designed to ensure line contact between jaws and specimen.
